I love you, I love you, I love you

My grandma's sweet sister passed away last night from liver cancer. Although I did not know her that well, I had the opportunity to spend the day with her, my mom, and grandma a few months ago. She was in between her chemo treatments and she was feeling well enough to go to the House of The Lord and then on a quick lunch date to Pizza Factory. While in the temple, she kindly led me along and smiled at me as the session went on. I hadn't spent much time around her up until that point, but then and there I realized what a sweet lady she was. When we went to lunch, she and my grandma (they look like twins) just hugged each other, laughed together, and held each other close. When we got talking about her cancer, she said these words: "My cancer is just an adventure in my eternal life." We all almost teared up, thinking how wonderful of a perspective that was. Although I didn't know her that well, that is an experience I'll never forget. I want to strive to look at everything as an adventure, and have a more optimistic perspective on life.

My mom told me a story a short while later that made me love Marlene even more. One day, she went up to her kind husband and said, "I'm going to give each of us a piece of paper, and we're both going to write down what we don't like about each other." They both sat at the table and started making lists. Once they showed each other the lists, she was astounded. While Marlene's read a long list of things that peeved her about her husband, Rod's paper had three words written over and over and over again.

I hope we can all look for the good in each other and the good in our lives, with a twinkle in our eye.

Spring Break

For Spring Break/my birthday week, Race and I road tripped to Cali! Disneyland three years in a row with my guy could never get old. It's my favorite place on earth (and I think becoming his, too.) It's the farthest road trip only he and I have been on together. Since I love taking photo after photo, I'll show you our spring break through the camera/iPhone lense. Enjoy! (There are billion).

We listened to Billy Joel, Bruce Springteen, Fleetwood Mac, Miley Cyrus, Jake Bugg (my new fav), Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, and of course all kinds of country. Wide variety of genres, I know. Side note: We both know every word to "We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel so that was on replay a lot.

I just borrowed Race's hat to not get my hair wet. Turns out, I make a really good boy in polka dot pants.

Dole whip = heaven

Pickles = heaven

Ben and Claira came to Disneyland with us one day, then the beach the next. We called this the "Splash selfie".

Churros=heaven

HOT
Beach selfie.

Ben + Claira. They should just get married already, right?

Frisbee, seagull catching (see my brother Ben's Instagram for that one), and laying out. Good day.

We headed to Santa Monica Pier, rode the rollercoaster and Ferris wheel, took some pictures, and went to dinner.

Bubba Gump is one of my all time favorite restaurants.
SPRINKLES! If you haven't been, go. They have a cupcake ATM and red velvet ice cream. No, this is not a joke.
We've been to Disneyland so many times that we know exactly when the pictures are taken on rides. We had a different pose every ride. I won't post all of them. ;)

We headed home (well to St. George) Friday morning. My dad was playing in a big golf tournament (he tied for first) on Saturday and Sunday and my birthday was Sunday. So everyone came down and it was a fun weekend.
Race and I went shopping at my fav boutique in STG, Blue Linen. Then we went to Sakura Saturday night.
See my Twitter for funny Grandma Mona quotes. She's kind of crazy but we love her.

If you know me, you know how much I love dogs. Especially Dexter. And little Maximus.
We spent my birthday laying by our pool, playing ping pong and pool, and had a barbecue with friends and family. It was a perfect day.
Dexter HATES the water, and Race threw him in the pool. Kate put billiard chalk on his head, so he was pouting in the corner all day.
Rhet (Race's dad) gave me a cowboy hat for my birthday. He's trying to convert me to a farm girl but.... ;)

Very casual, as you can tell.

Amanda's friend has this dog and he is the cutest thing ever. Race wants one now, I won't disagree. He's supposed to get fifty pounds heavier than Dex.
My dad helped Ben on the top of the house so he could jump into the pool. My mom swam in the pool right where he was supposed to jump so he wouldn't get in. It's only six feet deep, so it wouldn't have been a pretty sight.
Best birthday! Yes, I'm still a teenager even though I feel/look 25.
